Football clubs in Portugal and Brazil have expressed dissatisfaction with officiating standards following recent matches.

In Portugal, concerns were raised regarding a match between Sporting and Nacional. Specific officiating moments under scrutiny included a non-penalty decision where the ball struck Zé Vítor’s shoulder while his hands were behind his back, and an early yellow card issued to Maxi Araújo for a foul on Stavros Gavriel.

In Brazil, Fluminense filed a formal protest following their 1-0 victory over Vasco da Gama at the Maracanã, where Lucho Acosta scored the winning goal. The club alleged an “absolute lack of criteria” in the application of cards and a failure to award a penalty to player Serna. Fluminense also criticized referee Davi de Oliveira Lacerda for failing to penalize opponents appropriately, for a physical confrontation with player Canobbio, and for not addressing provocative behavior from a Vasco player toward the Fluminense bench. The club expressed concern that a lack of self-criticism among referees hinders the evolution of national officiating.

The defeat leaves Vasco in the relegation zone with 25 points, facing a 60.4% mathematical risk of relegation according to UFMG calculations. Vasco manager Pedro Emanuel described the result as “a little bit cruel” and noted the team will prioritize the Brasileirão ahead of their upcoming Copa Sul-Americana fixture against Santa Fe.
