Ford has unveiled the 2027 Mustang Dark Horse SC Convertible, marking the company’s first high-performance factory convertible since the Shelby GT500 ended production after 2014. Unveiled at the Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit, the vehicle is described as the most powerful open-air Mustang ever produced. The car features a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine generating 795 horsepower and 660 lb-ft of torque, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and a lightweight carbon-fiber driveshaft. To ensure structural integrity, engineers utilized a magnesium tower-to-tower brace and retuned MagneRide adaptive suspension. To accommodate the convertible body style, Ford has also implemented softer springs and anti-roll bars to enhance ride comfort during cruising. While the model focuses on high-performance road driving and grand touring, it lacks certain extreme track features found on the Dark Horse SC Coupe, such as ceramic brakes, carbon fiber wheels, or the Track Package. In the United States, order books are expected to open in the fall of 2026, with deliveries anticipated in the spring of 2027. Beyond the Dark Horse SC, reports indicate Ford is expanding its Mustang lineup with a potential off-road variant tentatively named the “Mustang Baja.” According to Automotive News, Ford has reportedly shown this model to dealers, following previous rumors of a “Mustang Raptor” and interest expressed by CEO Jim Farley regarding an off-road-ready supercar. Recent reports suggest development on the Baja remains active, with rumors indicating the all-terrain model could feature a V8 engine, a ten-speed automatic transmission, and an all-wheel-drive system, representing a significant departure from the traditional rear-wheel-drive Mustang setup.
