Central to this strategy is the Fathom, a midsize electric pickup built on the new Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform. CEO Jim Farley has addressed US government concerns regarding China, labeling certain accusations as “mistruths” while emphasizing Ford’s commitment to autonomous technology. Volume production for the Fathom is slated for early 2027. To support this, Ford is investing approximately $5 billion in its Louisville Assembly Plant in Kentucky, transitioning it to a specialized system for the UEV platform using a ‘tree-like’ production method to increase assembly speed by up to 40%.
