The ZDF Fernsehgarten marked its 40th anniversary during the 2026 summer season with themed live editions, schedule tweaks, and new policies. The season opened on 10 May with a “Schlagermusik Party” hosted by Andrea Kiewel, featuring Maite Kelly, Hansi Hinterseer, and other schlager acts. Subsequent specials included a “Discofox” party (21 June) and the flagship “Family Battle” (26 July). A themed “Rock im Garten” special aired on 2 August, featuring heavy metal and rock acts such as Doro Pesch and Nazareth. Following a viral incident, ZDF introduced an alcohol-free rule for the live audience; the ban was reiterated in July and drew comment from rival broadcasters. In August, schedule adjustments intensified. On 9 August, the regular live broadcast was replaced by a two-hour quiz special, “ZDF‑Fernsehgarten – Das Quiz,” hosted by Joachim Llambi. On 16 August, the live show resumed with an “Italo-Party” theme, featuring Nino de Angelo and social media personality Claudia Bastone. To provide an inside look at the production, the documentary ‘Backstage - Fernsehgarten’ was released. In a notable departure from seasonal norms, the 23 August broadcast featured a “Christmas Party” theme despite summer temperatures. The set included artificial snow, Christmas trees, and reindeer, with activities such as cookie baking and a Christmas tree throwing competition. Host Andrea Kiewel explained the decision by stating, “If we don’t come to Christmas, Christmas must come to us,” noting the show does not broadcast during the December holiday period. During a live broadcast, Kiewel also had to briefly interrupt an interview after being stung by a wasp, using a traditional home remedy to manage the pain before continuing. The anniversary season, which runs through 27 September, included a “Schlagerparty” on 30 August featuring Vanessa Mai, Semino Rossi, Nicole, Anna-Carina Woitschack, and Joelina Drews.
