Following the dismissal of Alexander Ende and assistant Zlatko Muhovic, Jens Langeneke took over coaching duties indefinitely at Fortuna Düsseldorf. Under Langeneke, the team experienced a period of improved results, including a 2-1 comeback victory in the ‘Straßenbahn-Derby’ against league leaders MSV Duisburg. This match, which drew 49,325 spectators, saw goals from Fabian Schleusener and Eric Hottmann. Düsseldorf subsequently secured a 2-1 away win against SSV Jahn Regensburg, marking their first away league victory in six months. However, the team's momentum has faced challenges. During a match against Hansa Rostock, Langeneke made his coaching debut, resulting in a 1-1 draw. While Langeneke praised the squad's character and intensity, he noted a requirement for improved ‘offensive clinicality and tactical adjustments’. The club also continues to manage squad availability issues, including injury concerns regarding defender Dominique Heintz. More recently, the team has struggled with finishing despite dominant performances. In a match against SV Meppen, Düsseldorf recorded a 0:0 draw despite registering between 25 and 30 shots and an expected goals value of 3.97. While the team has adopted a more offensive 4-2-3-1 formation under Langeneke, sporting director Samir Arabi noted that the club is still working to move past the atmosphere established under the previous coaching staff.
