FPCCI economic and trade initiatives in Pakistan

Overview

The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has focused on economic diversification and addressing structural trade challenges. Initially, the organization promoted a transition toward a cashless economy through digital payment adoption and sought to expand trade with Eastern European markets, such as Romania, Poland, Hungary, and the Czech Republic.

However, the FPCCI later issued warnings regarding a widening trade deficit. During the first two months of Fiscal Year 2026-27, the deficit rose by 18.1 percent to $7.1 billion. President Atif Ikram Sheikh attributed this imbalance to a lack of export competitiveness caused by high interest rates and rising electricity tariffs, which hinder manufacturing and modernization.
