France‑China espionage case involving pilot
Entities: China · Pierre-Henri Chuet · Direction Générale de la Sécurité Intérieure · Pierre‑Henri Chuet · TFASA
Overview
In late July 2026 French authorities opened a formal investigation into former naval Rafale pilot Pierre‑Henri Chuet on suspicion of spying for China. Investigators allege that while still serving he travelled to China in 2018 and 2019 to conduct training seminars for Chinese military personnel, using a South African shell company and failing to report the activity. After leaving the service in 2021, Chuet continued to present himself as an aviation expert on a popular YouTube channel.
A few days later the Paris public prosecutor confirmed that Chuet was placed under judicial control and charged with four offenses, including intelligence with a foreign power and disclosure of defence secrets. The probe also examines possible tax‑fraud and other misconduct. Chuet denies passing any secrets, and the case remains under active investigation.
