Frankfurt Marathon elite athlete participation and scale
The upcoming Mainova Frankfurt Marathon is expected to feature highly competitive elite fields. Initial reports highlighted the participation of Germany’s three fastest marathon runners—Amanal Petros, Samuel Fitwi, and Richard Ringer—alongside defending champion Benard Biwott and several international contenders. Subsequent updates indicate the men’s elite field will be the fastest in the event’s history, including four runners with personal bests under 2:05:00. The women’s field is also noted as the second-fastest in the race’s history. While 2018 winner Meskerem Assefa is expected to participate despite visa concerns, 2023 winner Buzunesh Getachew has withdrawn due to injury. German record holder and European marathon champion Amanal Petros has announced ambitions to break the European record or set a new German national record during the race on October 25. Petros noted that the European record is currently “only 27 seconds slower” than his personal best. While expressing confidence in his form, he acknowledged that weather conditions like wind or rain could influence the outcome, adding that if a record is not achieved, he intends to compete for a top-three finish. Organizers expect the 46th edition of the marathon to set a record for total participation. Motion Events has approved 19,776 registrations, an increase of approximately 2,000 compared to the previous year. To manage the larger crowd and prevent bottlenecks, organizers have optimized start procedures using crowd management simulations and models developed in partnership with London Marathon Investments.
