Authorities in the Czech Republic and Slovakia are implementing new measures and investigating significant financial crimes. In the Czech Republic, new legislation under Law No. 151/2025 Sb. allows the Labor Office to transfer portions of social benefits directly to landlords to assist tenants in arrears and prevent housing loss. In Slovakia, law enforcement is shifting its approach to fraud involving senior citizens. Criminal police chief Attila Zajonc stated that officers will no longer automatically dismiss cases where elderly victims voluntarily handed over funds, opting instead to evaluate each case individually alongside prosecutors. Recent investigations have uncovered large-scale investment fraud. Slovakian authorities uncovered a Ponzi scheme involving stocks, real estate, and cryptocurrencies that allegedly defrauded over 500 people of approximately 31 million euros, leading to the detention of 11 individuals. Meanwhile, Czech police in Litoměřice charged a financial courier for an organized fraud group involved in collecting nearly 500,000 CZK through deceptive tax and investment demands. In Slovakia, a separate investigation is underway regarding a woman who was allegedly defrauded of 58,700 euros through a cryptocurrency investment scam, during which the perpetrator reportedly obtained her mobile phone and payment card via a courier.
