Fraud investigations involving Ghanaian nationals in US

Overview

Authorities in the United States have addressed several fraud schemes involving individuals from Ghana. In Georgia, Samuel Opoku and Ousmane Gassama Diaby were arrested for an email scam that allegedly defrauded a Troup County church of over $60,000. Diaby, who had been wanted in Ghana, was apprehended in New Jersey in October 2026. He faces multiple felony charges, including identity theft and money laundering.

In a separate federal case, Ghanaian twins Jamal and Kamal Abubakari, known online as ‘Arrangement’ and ‘Lancaster’, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud. The 22-year-olds were part of an international network that targeted older individuals through dating websites and social media, resulting in losses exceeding $9 million. The operation utilized “artificial intelligence-powered video platforms” to impersonate women.

Additionally, Isaac Oduro Boateng (alias Kofi Boat) and Inusah Ahmed (alias Pascal) pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Identified as leaders of a criminal organization, they allegedly defrauded victims of more than $100 million through romance scams and business email compromise schemes. Boateng and Ahmed have agreed to pay a combined $41.1 million in restitution and forfeiture.
