Fraud prosecutions in Lagos

Overview

Legal proceedings regarding financial crimes in Lagos have seen recent developments in two separate cases.

In one instance, the Attorney-General of the Federation took over the prosecution of a N460.75 million fraud case involving Austin Ugochukwu Albert and Jinadu Musbau Olalekan. The case involves charges of criminal conspiracy, forgery, money laundering, and criminal diversion of funds. The court adjourned the matter to November 17, 2026, to allow for the regularization of the takeover and because the defendant, Austin Albert, failed to appear in court.

In a separate matter, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) re-arraigned Blessing Onyinaya Chimaobi and Uzofor Benson Chinedu in Ikeja. The defendants face 20 counts, including conspiracy and stealing, related to the alleged theft of ₦78,347,100 from a complainant. Both defendants pleaded not guilty, and the prosecution has requested the revocation of their bail.
