Negotiations began for Atlético Mineiro to sign midfielder Fred from the Turkish club Fenerbahçe. Atlético-MG CEO Pedro Daniel initially described the talks as advanced, noting that the player would be a “fantastic addition” to the squad. The transfer was finalized following the mutual termination of Fred’s contract with Fenerbahçe. To secure the 33-year-old Brazilian, Atlético Mineiro agreed to a compensation package totaling 2.5 million euros, which includes a 2 million euro fixed fee and 500,000 euros in performance-based bonuses. Fred has signed a contract with the Brazilian club that runs until the end of 2029. Atlético Mineiro has officially announced the signing, marking a return to the club where Fred began his youth career. Club owner Rubens Menin noted that the signing fulfills a long-standing desire of the player to return to his formative club. Fred brings extensive international experience to the squad, having previously played for Manchester United and Shakhtar Donetsk, and representing the Brazilian national team in the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.
