German Schlager legend and actor Freddy Quinn is celebrating his 95th birthday on September 27, 2026. After a career that saw him sell over 60 million records and achieve fame with hits such as ‘Heimweh’ and ‘La Paloma’, Quinn withdrew from public life in 2008 following the death of his partner, Lilli Blessmann. In his 2025 autobiography, ‘Wie es wirklich war’, Quinn addressed his public persona, noting that his seafaring image was a “costume that did not quite fit,” despite his success in films like ‘Freddy, die Gitarre und das Meer’. He revealed that his record label had even discouraged him from pursuing romantic relationships to maintain his unattached image. He currently lives in retirement in a farmhouse in Schleswig-Holstein with his wife, Rosi. His 95th birthday has been marked by a reconciliation with long-time musical rival Heino. In a personal letter, Heino expressed “great respect and esteem” for Quinn’s career, noting that as years pass, connections become more significant than differences. Quinn described the letter as a “great gesture,” clarifying that he never held a personal problem with Heino despite media-reported tensions. Additional celebrations included a visit from singer Jonny Hill, who shared a rare photograph on social media documenting a personal visit to congratulate Quinn. The two share Austrian roots and a mutual passion for country music, having previously collaborated on a 2011 album. The occasion also highlighted the discovery of previously unreleased country music recordings, including “Ghost Riders in the Sky” and “Home on the Range,” found in archives where his catalog has been stored for 50 years. ~~Quinn expressed pleasure regarding these 1990s-era recordings, citing his historical connection to country music through his roles in Karl May plays.~~
