French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has addressed various aspects of the upcoming 2027 national budget. Initially, Lecornu pledged support for the agricultural sector, promising new funding and tax relief in the draft finance bill to assist farmers facing severe summer droughts. Proposed measures include investments in water infrastructure, climate change adaptation, and potential reductions in property taxes and social security contributions for vulnerable farms. Lecornu has formally denied rumors regarding potential austerity measures, rejecting claims that the government intends to abolish student housing benefits (APL), freeze social solidarity income (RSA) or pensions, increase income taxes, or revise tax credits for personal services. Amidst these denials, the Inspection générale des finances (IGF) has issued a warning regarding ‘major risks’ if France must rely on a ‘special law’ to manage its finances.
