In July 2026 French men’s badminton recorded two historic milestones. On 18 July Christo Popov secured France’s second Japan Open title, a Super 750 event, by defeating Japan’s Koki Watanabe in straight games. A week later, on 25 July his brother Toma Junior Popov became the first French male to reach a Super 1000 singles final, advancing to the China Open final after a three‑game comeback against world No. 8 Victor Lai (14‑21, 21‑12, 21‑15). Popov adapted to challenging wind conditions in the arena, ending a 22‑year French absence from the tournament’s later stages since Pi Hongyan’s semi‑final run.
