Following widespread looting and property damage across French cities on October 17, 2026, tensions have expanded from cost-of-living grievances to education reform. To manage anticipated unrest from student unions and the ‘Yellow Vests’ movement, the Ministry of the Interior plans to deploy 70,000 police officers, supported by helicopters and armored vehicles. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu is scheduled to meet with students, teachers, and unions on October 26 to discuss concrete measures.
