France has implemented new initiatives to support energy transitions and reduce household costs. A national program launched on October 1 1, 2026, provides a “leasing” model an ‘integrated offer for heat pumps, aimed at helping pumps’ designed to help low-income households homeowners replace gas and or oil boilers. Supported by a 540 million euro budget, the scheme intends to equip 55,000 households over two years boilers with air-to-water heat pumps, offering pumps. Funded by energy saving certificates (CEE), the scheme offers an average of 9,800 euros in aid per household assistance through various business consortiums. a turnkey solution that includes installation, financing, maintenance, and fixed-price electricity for three years. While rising fuel oil prices—which have increased by over 40%—are driving households toward these thermodynamic technologies, experts have raised concerns regarding technical limitations. They warn that for poorly insulated homes, the coefficient of performance (COP) may drop significantly during prolonged freezes. This can trigger backup heaters and lead to high electricity consumption and unexpected costs if the residence is not properly prepared for the transition. Complementing these national efforts, regional programs such as the ‘Chèque transition bioéthanol’ in the Région Sud provide subsidies for motorists to install bioethanol conversion kits. These combined measures seek to lower energy expenses and facilitate the transition to more sustainable heating and fuel options.
