French family jet ski rescue in Koh Samui

Overview

A French father and his two sons, aged five and seven, were rescued after spending more than 16 hours adrift at sea near Koh Samui, Thailand. The incident occurred when their rented jet ski capsized due to rough waves approximately 15 minutes into a planned excursion.

Search operations involving speedboats and jet skis located the family on a Friday morning between Koh Samui and Koh Phangan. Rescuers noted the family members were exhausted and had swallowed seawater, but survival was aided by the use of life jackets. All three were medically evaluated at a hospital and subsequently discharged.

While the father described himself as an experienced driver, the jet ski operator suggested the family may have traveled beyond the area permitted by their rental agreement. Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the capsize.
