The Fondation du patrimoine has announced the 100 departmental winners for the 2026 edition of the ‘Loto du patrimoine’, an initiative designed to fund the restoration of endangered sites across France. This year, religious buildings represent a significant portion of the selection, accounting for 34% of the chosen sites. Specific locations selected for funding include the Château de Turenne in Corrèze and the St Jean de Vergt church in Dordogne. Funding for these and other historical renovations is raised through dedicated lottery games and scratch cards. Among the newly highlighted sites is the Château de Cornillon-sur-l’Oule in the Drôme region. This 13th-century fortress, situated in the Baronnies provençales, is currently in ruins due to abandonment, drought, and weather. The funding aims to assist private owners in the progressive restoration of the structure. To support these preservation efforts, local supporters have established the association ‘Les Amis du Castrum de Cornillon-sur-l’Oule’ to mobilize volunteers and maintain the site’s historical knowledge.
