French municipalities are implementing various strategies to comply with 2024 mandates regarding bio-waste sorting and circular economy goals. In Saint-Georges-d'Orques, authorities have introduced a system using perforated bio-buckets and kraft paper bags for organic waste, specifically prohibiting plastic bags to avoid microplastic contamination. Other regions are focusing on simplifying sorting processes and improving efficiency. The Communauté de communes des Coëvrons plans to reduce its container system from three colors to two to harmonize instructions and lower collection costs. Meanwhile, in Pouilly-Bligny, data indicates a decrease in waste refusal rates, which dropped from 19% in March 2026 to 17% in September 2026. New regulatory and seasonal adjustments are also emerging. In the Creuse Grand Sud region, intercommunal recycling centers will cease accepting grass clippings and leaves starting January 1, 2027. This restriction aims to comply with environmental regulations, such as the AGEC law, and is intended to “encourage on-site composting to preserve soil moisture and reduce the volume of organic waste transported to facilities.” Additionally, the Pau Agglomeration area, including Pau, Lescar, Jurançon, Bizanos, and Bosdarros, is implementing winter hours for recycling centers effective October 25, 2026, with sites closing at 17:00 Monday through Saturday and at 12:00 on Sundays and public holidays.
