Futuro Nazionale political controversy and scandals

Overview

The Italian far-right movement Futuro Nazionale, led by former general Roberto Vannacci, has faced significant controversy regarding its conduct and internal communications.

Initial reports emerged from Gradara, where activists reported a wave of online harassment, personal insults, and calls to boycott a local commercial establishment hosting a signature collection point for the movement. The Pesaro 250 Committee denounced these actions as attempts to isolate opponents through intimidation.

Following these incidents, a larger scandal surfaced involving a WhatsApp group titled ‘Vannacci, last hope’. Leaked communications from approximately 300 members, including local party leaders primarily from the Lombardy region, revealed extensive hate speech and extremist rhetoric. The messages contained antisemitic slurs, describing Jewish people as ‘beasts who worship Satan’ and ‘cannibals,’ alongside hateful rhetoric directed at Arabs and Muslims, including calls for their extermination.

The chat also included praise for Adolf Hitler and references to fascist military commander Junio Valerio Borghese. Some participants advocated for a military-style organizational structure and expressed intentions to overthrow current authorities, with one member stating they were ‘waiting for the general’s orders.’ While the messages suggest a desire for a ‘military’ approach to politics, there is no evidence that Roberto Vannacci himself was a member of the group. Futuro Nazionale leadership has maintained that the group is unofficial, violates internal party rules, and does not represent the party’s formal political platform.
