FX has announced the premiere of ‘The Drop: A Snowfall Saga’, an eight-episode crime drama spin-off of the series ‘Snowfall’. Set in 1990s Los Angeles, the narrative follows characters Wanda Bell (Gail Bean) and Leon Simmons (Isaiah John) as they navigate the transition from the crack epidemic to the rise of West Coast rap. Wanda Bell seeks to use hip-hop to reshape American culture by navigating the intersection of street politics and the music industry, while Leon Simmons attempts to move past his history by running a free legal clinic. On August 17, 2026, FX and Hulu released the official trailer for the series. The trailer highlights Wanda’s ambitions as she navigates dangerous territories involving family members and local artists, and Leon’s struggle to distance himself from his past. The production is executive produced by Malcolm Spellman, among others. The series premiered on FX on September 8, 2026, with the first episode titled ‘Click Pop’. The story follows Wanda as she enters the music industry with the assistance of her cousin Lamar Kinsey (Asante Blackk) and local rapper Artillery (Simmie “Buddy” Sims III), while Leon warns her of the industry's inherent dangers. While the series serves as a successor to the original ‘Snowfall’ saga, it does not feature Damson Idris’s character, Franklin Saint. Critics have noted that although the absence of Idris changes the series' dynamic, the show maintains core themes of survival, family, and legacy. Lead actress Gail Bean, reprising her role as Wanda Bell, described the experience of continuing the franchise without co-creator John Singleton as ‘bittersweet’.
