Since the transition began in late 2025, Gabon’s interim government has pursued a reform agenda focused on industrialization, economic diversification, and fiscal discipline. While the nation maintains a 4% growth rate driven by non-oil sectors, recent developments highlight both strategic expansion and persistent governance concerns. To improve resource management, the government has partnered with the African Development Bank to fund the COSAFE project and has moved to assert economic sovereignty. This includes the creation of a national commission to audit economic conventions and the revocation of dozens of mining research and exploitation permits. Additionally, the state launched La Gabonaise des Jeux (GDJ) to centralize gambling management. Industrialization efforts have expanded with the launch of a US$195 million cement and clinker plant project, a joint venture involving the government, Hope Global Investment, and Conch Investment Holding. This facility aims to reduce import reliance and support the Mondah Green Beach coastal city program. However, fiscal and administrative challenges persist.
