Following his West African diplomatic tour in late July and early August 2026, President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema has continued to engage in domestic and international state affairs. On 8 August, the President met with Alain Mayama, Superior General of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit, who announced the congregation has transitioned to being “fully managed by local Gabonese ecclesiastical leaders” to support local education and health projects. On 9 August, the President participated in celebrations for Gabon’s 17th National Flag Day. During Gabon’s 66th Independence anniversary, President Oligui Nguema outlined social priorities, specifically focusing on infrastructure, vocational training, and youth employment. In a national address, he highlighted various modernization projects completed during his first year in office, including infrastructure improvements and new health centers in La Peyrie, Akébé, and Bikélé. To commemorate the 66th anniversary of independence on 17 August, the nation highlighted eight core values under the concept of ‘CONCORDE’. In conjunction with these celebrations, President Oligui Nguema and First Lady Zita Oligui Nguema presided over a ceremony on 16 August at the Senate esplanade to honor 1,560 citizens with distinctions such as the Order of the Equatorial Star. Parallel to these domestic efforts, the Gabonese government is advancing an industrial shift regarding mineral resources, including agreements to prioritize the local processing of manganese. In late August, the President pledged further infrastructure development in the Ogooué-Ivindo province, including a secondary school, road paving, and a health center in the Makébé-bakwaka district. Additionally, Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi visited Libreville to strengthen bilateral ties, signing agreements for reciprocal visa exemptions and political consultations. In late August, during preparations for National Liberation Day, a symposium in Makokou discussed leveraging the Ogooué-Ivindo province's mining, forest, and biodiversity resources to drive economic growth.
