Galician President Alfonso Rueda has been engaging with various agricultural and industrial sectors to promote regional development and address industry challenges. Initially, Rueda highlighted the Bico de Xeado model as a successful example of rural development and high-quality dairy production. This initiative, which utilizes the ‘Galicia Calidade’ standard, focuses on animal welfare and environmental respect. To support such cooperative efforts, the Galician government is working on a new Law of Cooperatives of Galicia to modernize a legal framework that is nearly thirty years old. Subsequently, Rueda visited the Valdeorras vineyards to support the wine sector. During this visit, discussions with local producers centered on critical industry pressures, specifically the difficulty of securing seasonal labor and the lack of generational renewal within farming families. Expanding support to the Valdeorras region, infrastructure improvements on the road between Casoio and Riodolas have been completed. This nine-month project, a strategic initiative by the Xunta and the Council of Carballeda de Valdeorras, aims to support the regional slate industry by improving access to a primary hub of activity. During an inspection of the completed works, Rueda met with local officials officials, including the Mayor of Carballeda, María del Carmen González, and the President of the Deputation of Ourense, Luis Menor. Representatives from the Galicia Slate Cluster also participated in the visit to discuss future projects for the sector, which remains a fundamental component of the local economy.
