Garmin smartwatch users have reported significant battery life degradation following recent software updates. Initial reports focused on the Fenix 6 series, specifically the Fenix 6 Pro and Fenix 6X Pro models, where autonomy dropped from 10–14 days to as little as 40 hours. Subsequent reports identified a potential cause across other models, such as the Forerunner 970 and the Fenix 8. The issue appears linked to the ‘OK Garmin’ voice activation feature, which requires the device to continuously listen for the activation phrase. This feature may have been enabled automatically during the update process. Users have reported battery life reductions of approximately 35 to 50 percent. For example, one user noted a decrease from 15 days of battery life down to 9 days. While Garmin’s documentation acknowledges that the voice command feature impacts battery endurance, the severity of the drain has surprised many customers. This decline in performance affects a major software rollout intended to bring Garmin wearables closer to the functionality of modern smartwatches. A temporary workaround involves manually disabling the feature by navigating to Watch Settings, then System, and finally Voice to turn off ‘OK Garmin’.
