Documentaries focused on the Gaza conflict have gained significant recognition in the international film circuit. The documentary ‘NAZA’, directed by Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, was added to the main competition for the 83rd Venice Film Festival. As the only documentary competing for the Golden Lion, the film examines the systems behind Palestinian civilian deaths in Gaza through footage filmed at night from rooftops in Tel Aviv. The film’s title is derived from a Hebrew military acronym used by Israeli intelligence to refer to expected civilian casualties during airstrikes. The project is based on investigative reporting conducted between 2023 and 2025 by +972 Magazine, Local Call, and The Guardian. ‘NAZA’ was produced by The Guardian and James Wilson, with executive producer Jonathan Glazer. To protect the identities of its sources, the film utilizes digital alterations of voices and appearances. While the filmmakers aim to document the systemic nature of these operations, the Israel Defense Forces has rejected the film's central allegations, stating that it takes military considerations out of context. In a separate development, Switzerland selected the documentary ‘Who Is Still Alive’ by Nicolas Vadimoff as its official entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 2027 Academy Awards.
