The 51st Gdynia Polish Film Festival has begun releasing details regarding its programming and special segments. An initial feature highlighted the ‘Mistrzowska Piątka’ (Masterful Five) series, where artists such as Katarzyna Herman, Anna Jadowska, Henryk Kuźniak, Paweł Maślona, and Wojciech Smarzowski discuss career-defining Polish films. Subsequent announcements confirmed the festival dates as September 21 to 26. The event will include various juries, with the main competition led by Krzysztof Zanussi, while Dorota Kędzierzawska and Ewa Braun will chair the Perspectives and short film competitions, respectively. The program includes Jan Holoubek’s ‘Dziki, dziki wschód’ as the opening film, alongside works by Paweł Pawlikowski and Jan Komasa. The ‘Polonica’ section will also showcase the Latvian film ‘Ulya’, directed by Viesturs Kairišs, which explores the life of basketball player Uļjana Semjonova. Recent updates reveal that 16 films will compete for the Złote Lwy awards. The selection is noted for its diversity in female representation, featuring seven female directors in the main competition and four in the Perspectives section. Among the premieres is Piotr Domalewski’s ‘Nasza rewolucja’, a film exploring personal relationships and the struggle for freedom during historical shifts. Following its festival debut, the film is scheduled for a nationwide theatrical release in Poland on November 11, 2026.
