Geely is expanding its global footprint through the rollout of the Monjaro EM-i, a hybrid D-segment SUV built on the Global Intelligent New Energy Architecture (GEA) Evo platform. Following its scheduled debut, Geely officially launched the Monjaro EM-i in Egypt in late August. The vehicle utilizes the EM-i Super Hybrid system, pairing an electric drive with a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. The Ultra AWD flagship variant can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.83 seconds. Following the Cairo launch, Geely plans to expand the model to the UAE, Mexico, Kazakhstan, the UK, and Europe. This expansion aligns with significant growth in overseas markets; Geely reported that exports reached 474,228 vehicles in the first half of the year, a 157.6% increase compared to the previous year. At the AutoShow Guayaquil 2026 in Ecuador, Geely showcased the Starray EM-i, a plug-in hybrid SUV (PHEV) featuring a combined range of 1,000 km. This expansion continues in Australia with the introduction of the Starray EM-i Inspire AWD, a midsize PHEV scheduled for mid-September arrival. The Australian variant features an additional 80kW/150Nm rear-axle electric motor, bringing total system output to 220kW and 412Nm. Utilizing a 29.8kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery and a 60L petrol tank, the model offers a combined WLTP-rated range of 1,065km. The Inspire AWD includes a five-link rear suspension and specialized driving modes, retailing at $44,990 to compete with rivals like the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Geely is also advancing industrial plans in Algeria to establish a regional hub. Following sales of over 10,000 vehicles in 2023, the company aims to establish a manufacturing unit focused on high-tech automation and knowledge transfer, with plans to introduce hybrid vehicles within five years.
