In Jujuy, Argentina, local authorities have initiated efforts to combat gender violence and discrimination through institutional coordination and strategic planning. Initially, the Provincial Council of Women, Gender Equality, and Respect for Diversities organized the ‘Foro Jujuy Igualitario’. This forum brought together representatives from nearly 40 municipalities to exchange experiences and train staff. The goal was to strengthen a territorial assistance network utilizing multidisciplinary teams of social workers, lawyers, and psychologists to ensure access to support services. Following this, the Government of Jujuy expanded its efforts by partnering with UN Women Argentina. This collaboration focuses on the ‘Provincial Strategic Plan for the Prevention and Eradication of Gender Violence and Diversity 2026-2028’, which is built upon three pillars: violence prevention, violence response, and economic autonomy. As part of this plan, specific initiatives are being developed to support women in the mining sector, including diagnostics to identify barriers for local communities and indigenous populations in the Puna region. Furthering these efforts, Governor Carlos Sadir met with officials from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to renew an eight-year partnership dedicated to youth and violence prevention. This collaboration targets strategic investments in adolescent policies, including mental health, Comprehensive Sexual Education (ESI), and the prevention of unintended pregnancy. A key component of this partnership is the REE-Sí (Red de Empoderamiento por la Educación Sexual Integral) initiative, which promotes youth participation and is scheduled to expand its reach into the Puna region through new local alliances. Recent developments include the Ad Honorem Advisory Council holding its second meeting to coordinate the Provincial Plan Against Gender Violence. With technical support from UN Women Argentina, participants reviewed progress on the 2026-2028 Strategic Plan.
