Generative AI usage and perception studies
Overview
Research into generative AI usage and perception has highlighted varying levels of adoption and trust across different social and professional contexts.
In Portugal, a study by Marktest found that 77% of social media users have utilized generative AI tools, with usage being most prevalent among younger demographics and higher socioeconomic classes. While 22.5% of users employ AI for social media content creation, there are significant concerns regarding credibility. Approximately 64.7% of those familiar with the technology feel that AI-generated content is less credible in political, journalistic, or product review contexts, and 95% of respondents emphasized the importance of clearly identifying AI-generated content.
Complementary research in the workplace has focused on how observing colleagues perceive the use of generative AI. This study examined how factors such as task type (creative versus analytical), transparency (open versus covert), and the extent of AI involvement (supportive versus delegating) influence interpersonal evaluations of competence, morality, trust, and fairness.
