As young people begin vocational training in Germany, experts and consumer protection organizations are providing guidance on professional onboarding and financial preparedness.

Regarding professional integration, experts suggest that companies—especially smaller ones—should prioritize structured onboarding to foster long-term employee identification. This includes introducing apprentices to facilities and personnel while clearly defining expectations for work behavior and social conduct.

On the financial side, consumer groups such as the Interests Association Money and Consumers (GVI) and the Verbraucherzentrale emphasize the necessity of securing essential insurance to mitigate existential risks. While statutory health insurance is a legal requirement, experts also recommend private disability insurance and personal liability insurance. They advise apprentices to check if they are still covered under parental policies to avoid unnecessary duplication. Additional recommendations include supplemental travel health insurance for trips abroad and optional household contents insurance for those moving into independent living.
