German digital dependency and technology trends

Overview

German companies are experiencing high levels of dependency on foreign digital imports. According to a survey by the digital association Bitkom, approximately 96 percent of German businesses import digital technologies and services from abroad. While the average survival time if these imports were suddenly unavailable improved slightly from 14 months in 2025 to 16 months, dependency remains a critical issue. Notably, 73 percent of respondents expressed concern regarding dependency on US technologies, a significant increase from 38 percent in 2024.

In response to these technological needs and challenges such as skilled labor shortages, German service companies are increasingly focusing on the digitalization of field service processes and utilizing IT outsourcing. Businesses are seeking managed IT services and custom software development to enhance efficiency, maintain security, and manage operational costs.
