German laser drone defense technology development
Overview
German defense technology companies are securing significant funding to develop laser-based drone defense systems.
In late August 2026, INLEAP Photonics secured approximately €20 million in a seed funding round led by UVC Partners. The company intends to use the capital to expand mass production and manufacturing capacity to meet growing demand for protecting critical infrastructure. INLEAP Photonics is already collaborating with the German Federal Ministry of Defence and has established a strategic partnership with STARK Defence.
Following this, Ground A GmbH raised €9.1 million in a pre-seed round led by Vsquared Ventures to support its mobile laser weapon system, the GA 1000. The system uses concentrated light and optical sensors to neutralize drones, including small FPV models, by causing them to ignite or crash. Ground A plans to begin serial production of the GA 1000 next year, offering a safer alternative to kinetic interception methods in densely populated areas.
