German municipal traffic enforcement and infrastructure
Overview
German municipalities are managing various traffic enforcement and infrastructure issues. In Haldensleben, Saxony-Anhalt, fraudulent 70 km/h speed limit signs led to nearly 400 speed cameras capturing images of drivers; however, all fine proceedings were dismissed due to the signage being fake.
Other regions, including Trier, Saarland, Recklinghausen, and Dorsten, have reported scheduled speed camera operations. In Walldorf, authorities have increased measures against speeding and a networked ‘poser’ culture that communicates the locations of mobile measurement devices to avoid detection. Between August 1 and September 5, 86 violations of a 30 km/h limit were recorded in Walldorf.
Regarding infrastructure, Bergisch Gladbach reported spending 31.3 million euros on street renovations over the last five years, including 13 million euros for the reconstruction of Schlossstraße.
