In late August, labor unions including the DGB, IG Metall, and Verdi intensified their opposition to the CDU/CSU and SPD coalition's reforms. In Koblenz, over 100 representatives gathered to protest changes to pensions, healthcare, and nursing care. Activists launched a ‘Red Card to Social Gutting’ campaign, collecting over 5,000 postcards for government members in Rhineland-Palatinate. Union leaders, such as IG Metall’s Hans-Jürgen Urban, warned of a period of ‘multiple crises’ and pledged to defend pension benefits.
