Germany’s National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) opened a result-management procedure after 25-year-old sprinter Owen Ansah missed a required test on 9 July 2026. Because the missed test did not trigger an automatic provisional suspension, he remained eligible to compete. At the German Athletics Championships (25-26 July), he retained his 100 m title in 10.00 seconds and won the 200 m in a personal best of 20.13 seconds, despite the disciplinary proceeding that began after he refused an unannounced test before traveling to the airport. On 7 August, NADA formally proposed a four-year ban, reducible to three years if Ansah accepts the findings. Ansah disputes the allegation, asserting that a doping controller approached him outside of his designated time window while he was preparing to travel to a Diamond League meeting in Monaco. His lawyer, Rainer Tarek Cherkeh, stated that Ansah never refused a test and will not accept the proposal. During the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, Ansah won the bronze medal in the 100 m final with a time of 10.19 seconds and the gold medal in the 200 m with a time of 19.95 seconds. To avoid the risk of subsequent disqualification, the German Athletics Association (DLV) opted not to include him in the 4x100-meter relay. Following his European success, Ansah failed to advance past the 100-meter heats at the Diamond League meeting in Chorzow, Poland. He has since announced the premature end of his season due to an injury, meaning he will not compete in the upcoming Istaf event in Berlin. Ansah has officially rejected the proposed four-year ban and is seeking a disciplinary hearing at the German Sports Arbitration Court. The proceedings are expected to be non-public, and decisions may be subject to further appeal through the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
