Germany women's football team defeats Japan 2-1

Overview

Following their 4-2 victory against Australia, the German women's national football team secured a 2-1 comeback victory against Asian champions Japan in a friendly match at the Weserstadion in Bremen. This fixture served as a critical test in the team's preparations for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup in Brazil.

Despite an early goal from Japan's Momoko Tanikawa in the 15th minute, which capitalized on a defensive error, Germany responded with goals from Bayern Munich teammates Linda Dallmann and Klara Bühl. Dallmann equalized in the 28th minute following an assist from Bühl, and Bühl secured the win with a powerful strike in the 73rd minute. The match was played in rainy conditions before a crowd of approximately 26,500 spectators.

Head coach Christian Wück, who had previously described Japan as “one of the strongest teams in the world,” expressed satisfaction with the squad's resilience and their ability to react after falling behind. While the team faced challenges including injuries to key players such as Giulia Gwinn and Lea Schüller, the performance was noted for its tactical discipline and the strong connection between players. This victory follows a period of strong form for the team as they continue their international testing phase.
