Germany-Austria community youth programs
Overview
Throughout the summer of 2026, local authorities and community groups in Germany and Austria provided a continuous blend of educational, cultural, and sporting programmes for children and teenagers.
In early July, activities focused on educational and community-based events. These included a sixth-grade library visit in Eppingen, historic bread-making workshops in Deutsch-Wagram, and family-friendly museum programmes in Upper Austria, such as Roman-era explorations at the Lauriacum museum. In Vienna’s Ottakring district, the Volxkino association hosted a free outdoor screening of ‘Ich verstehe ihren Unmut’.
By late July and into early August, the focus shifted toward holiday camps and outdoor adventures. German programs included soccer training with the DFB in Grünberg, a ‘Wild West’ themed camp in Olpe, and a tent camp in Karlsruhe that continued despite a sudden thunderstorm. In Austria, youth activities centered around the Wolfgangsee, featuring beach volleyball, boat trips, and team-building exercises at the Allround-Camp.
In mid-August, holiday camps in the St. Wolfgang region expanded their offerings to include cliff jumping qualifications at the Neuen Molo, specialized sailing courses for those who completed boating training, and creative workshops at Villa Kunterbunt. Group activities also featured traditional games such as ‘360-degree football’ and ‘Quickball’.
Cultural excursions remained a staple of the summer, including Danube cruises through Vienna’s historic centre, visits to the Belvedere to see Klimt’s ‘Der Kuss’, and hikes on the Kahlenberg wine hill.
