The Federal Ministry for the Environment has dismissed these calculations as premature, stating that a reliable assessment is not possible until the Federal Environment Agency publishes the official annual balance in March 2027. Meanwhile, Chancellor Merz has faced political scrutiny and criticism regarding his communication and response to recent climate-related disasters. Amidst these challenges, electrification efforts continue. In Marktl am Inn, a modern district heating network is being developed to transition away from oil and gas. Operated by Fernwärme Marktl GmbH & Co. KG, the project utilizes a combination of renewable sources, including local wood chips and a large-scale heat pump powered by 100 percent renewable electricity, with completion expected by the end of 2026.
