German school and childcare infrastructure upgrades continue

Throughout the summer of 2026, German municipalities continued extensive infrastructure upgrades to schools and childcare facilities. In Dorsten, the city is investing approximately €14.3 million to address maintenance backlogs. This includes a €5.2 million expansion of the Albert-Schweitzer-Schule and expansions to the Neue Schule. The municipal infrastructure company InfraDOR is coordinating several kindergarten projects to meet rising demand. The two-storey Ahornstraße facility in Holsterhausen and the single-storey Pestalozzistraße kindergarten, designed for 90 children, have been completed and handed over to operators. In Plettenberg, foundations are being installed for container classrooms at Geschwister-Scholl-Realschule to mitigate space shortages. Newer developments include the repurposing of the former Gerhart-Hauptmann-Realschule in Wolfsburg to serve as a new branch for the Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium, following extensive modernization of its electrical, heating, and sanitary systems. In Schwalmstadt-Treysa, the Hephata campus is expanding to support the new Evangelische Hochschule Hessen (EHH), with plans for teaching rooms and student housing for approximately 44 individuals expected to be completed by the 2027/2028 winter semester. Furthermore, the Life-Campus has opened in Bramfeld, Hamburg, as a new educational hub offering over 200 different courses and programs.
