The German Federal Ministry of Defence has begun preparations for a new military service by identifying five specific locations for training capacity. These sites include former barracks in Speyer, Kusel, Sigmaringen, Soest, and Friedberg. The ministry is pursuing land acquisition and formalizing plans through Letters of Intent, though final stationing decisions have not yet been made. In conjunction with these infrastructure developments, Bundeswehr reservists have commenced active training exercises. In Fritzlar, approximately 100 reservists practiced from the Kurhessen district group conducted maneuvers at the Hellenwarte training area. The group, consisting of both experienced soldiers and newcomers, practiced simulated combat scenarios using camouflage and non-lethal weapons. Participants cited the current global situation as a primary motivation for their voluntary service, aiming to maintain readiness to prevent conflict from reaching Germany. Three-star General Nicole Schilling visited the site to recognize the commitment of the reservists.
