Median payback periods are 4.6 years for balcony kits and 6.2 years for full‑size systems. Adding battery storage doubles self‑consumption to about 80 % and yields a 20‑year financial benefit of €31,500 versus €13,843 without storage. Typical system size is 9 kW peak, with many households also planning EV chargers and heat pumps. Regional uptake is strongest in North Rhine‑Westphalia, Bavaria and Baden‑Württemberg.
