Germany's women's national football team head coach Christian Wück initially announced a 24-player squad for upcoming home test matches against Australia and Japan. The squad included captain Giulia Gwinn, who was returning from a shoulder operation. However, Gwinn subsequently suffered a left ankle injury during a Bundesliga match against Eintracht Frankfurt, where she was forced to leave the pitch after twisting her ankle during a challenge. The German Football Association (DFB) confirmed she will miss the international fixtures in Karlsruhe and Bremen. This injury represents a further setback for the 27-year-old defender, who has previously dealt with two ACL ruptures and recent shoulder surgery. In her absence, Wück has called up Sarai Linder from VfL Wolfsburg. Further medical examinations are scheduled to determine the full extent of the ankle damage. Medical updates have since confirmed that Gwinn suffered a ligament tear in her left ankle, which will sideline her for several weeks. In addition to Gwinn’s absence, the German national team is also managing absences from Kathrin Hendrich and Rebecca Knaak.
