Ghanaian actor and producer Kwadwo Nkansah, known as Lil Win, announced an international film project titled ‘A Journey to Africa (Nzulezu)’. Produced under his Weezy Empire banner, the project aims to bridge the Kumawood and Nollywood film industries by filming in the stilt village of Nzulezu in Ghana’s Western Region. Following the announcement, prominent Nigerian actors, including Destiny Etiko, Patience Ozokwor, Kanayo O. Kanayo, and Mike Ezuruonye, arrived at Kotoka International Airport in Accra to begin preparations. However, the production has faced financial complications. Lil Win reported experiencing significant stress and sleep loss due to outstanding payments owed to the Nigerian cast members. In a video shared online, he described recurring anxiety regarding unpaid balances, specifically mentioning dreams where veteran actor Kanayo O. Kanayo and others demand their remaining fees. Addressing public speculation about his finances, Lil Win denied that he is personally funding the entire production. He suggested production, suggesting that an audit by Ghana’s Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) would reveal a need for financial assistance rather than hidden wealth. Lil Win has since sparked debate within the West African film industry by claiming that Nigerian actors are more professional and business-minded than his Ghanaian counterparts, noting they respond more quickly to scripts and contracts. This sparked backlash from local figures, such as comedian Parrot Mouth, who argued that Lil Win’s public discussions regarding the costs of hosting Nigerian stars have undermined the reputation of local actors and created a perception of inferiority within the Ghanaian film industry.
