The three‑month upgrade of the Kumasi‑Anwomaso transmission line, which began on 20 July, has seen 56 of the 60 towers installed and GRIDCo replace transformers at the Ahodwo sub‑station to support a new 1 GW capacity. Energy Minister Dr John Abdulai Jinapor warned that further delays could jeopardise grid stability. On 29 July, a disturbance on the national interconnected transmission system caused several generating plants to trip, triggering a simultaneous nationwide outage. GRIDCo activated its restoration protocol, re‑energising the grid, apologising to customers and launching a technical investigation. The outage affected electricity delivery to consumers and to 31 bulk customers served by 11 wholesale suppliers, including the Volta River Authority. The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has continued to schedule daytime outages across Accra, Ashanti, Tema, Central, Eastern and other regions to accommodate emergency maintenance and system upgrades, with programmes extending through early August. On 29 July, a disturbance on the national interconnected transmission system caused several generating plants to trip, triggering 2 August ECG announced a simultaneous nationwide outage. GRIDCo activated its restoration protocol, working with stakeholders week‑long series of scheduled outages starting 3 August, running from 9 a.m. to re‑energise 5 p.m. in parts of Accra (East), the grid Ashanti Region, Tema, the Volta Region and restore supply to bulk customers, while investigating the cause. Eastern Region. The work is described as urgent repairs and upgrades to improve reliability, though it will impact many workers and businesses. Sierra Leone’s Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority still reports faults in the Western Area linked to vandalism, transformer failures and heavy rain. Eskom’s recent 14‑hour Limpopo interruption remains unrelated.
