In July 2026, Vietnam’s Gia Lai province announced the launch of introduced a year‑long "Quantum “Quantum Year 2026" 2026” programme designed to promote spur research, development and commercialisation of quantum technologies across sectors such as in agriculture, logistics and data security. The initiative, coordinated Coordinated with the National Innovation Center, the VNQuantum network and other partners, established the plan set four pillars: scientific conferences, technology development (including an international quantum‑computing hackathon), start‑up incubation and education. A week later the province hosted the final round of the International Quantum Computing Hackathon, drawing attracting over 500 participants from more than 30 countries. The event combined paired training, mentorship and investment linking to turn investment, converting quantum‑based solutions for AI, cybersecurity, finance and health into commercial projects, illustrating Vietnam’s projects and signalling a shift from talent attraction to long‑term ecosystem building. Two days after the hackathon, Gia Lai opened the International Symposium on Quantum Computing & Semiconductor Technologies for the Public. Hundreds of students, researchers and industry representatives attended talks on quantum information and semiconductor advances. Officials used the symposium to launch the "Vietnam “Vietnam Quantum Roadshow" Roadshow” and to call called for a national roadmap, training programmes and policy support to develop a skilled workforce and move quantum computing from labs toward practical use over use. On 27 July, the next decade. SEA+ Quantum Coordinator Meeting was held in Gia Lai under the Chatham House Rule. Delegates from Southeast Asia and neighbouring countries discussed creating a unified quantum science and technology ecosystem, emphasizing knowledge exchange, resource sharing and regional talent pipelines. The meeting, organised by the provincial Department of Science and Technology, the National Innovation Center, VNQuantum and local authorities, formed part of the Vietnam Quantum Roadshow and is expected to guide long‑term regional policy and research collaboration.
