Gil Vicente participated in two separate cup competitions in October 2026. In the Taça de Portugal third round, Gil Vicente defeated União de Santarém 3-2 in extra time. After Rafael Camacho opened the scoring, Gil Vicente took a 2-1 lead through Agustín Moreira and Rodrigo Silva. União de Santarém equalized in the 89th minute via Santi García, but Zé Carlos scored in the 109th minute to secure the win. Later in the month, Gil Vicente faced Benfica in the Taça da Liga at the Estádio da Luz. Benfica won the match 4-1, securing a spot in the tournament’s Final Four. Lukebakio scored twice, including an acrobatic strike, while Sudakov and Jhon Durán also scored for Benfica. Andreas Lausen provided the lone goal for Gil Vicente in the 56th minute. Following this victory, Benfica is scheduled to face FC Porto in the semi-finals in Leiria this January, while Sporting will play Famalicão in the other semi-final. Gil Vicente coach Luís Pinto expressed pride in his team’s competitive start, though he criticized officiating decisions, specifically regarding a dismissal he felt was unwarranted. Following the loss to Benfica, Pinto also criticized what he described as a “lack of seriousness in Portuguese football,” specifically regarding player suspensions. Benfica coach Marco Silva defended the inclusion of Jhon Durán, addressing controversy regarding the player's eligibility after a previous expulsion.
