Billionaire Gina Rinehart has increased her involvement with the One Nation political party through both recruitment efforts and infrastructure support. In late September, reports emerged that Rinehart allegedly attempted to recruit Liberal National Party MP Henry Pike to join One Nation during a lunch on the Sunshine Coast. Pike declined the overture, stating he remains committed to the values of the Liberal party. By early October, Rinehart’s company, Hancock Prospecting, through its subsidiary Hanrine Investments, purchased an $8 million three-storey office building in Spring Hill, Brisbane, to serve as the new One Nation headquarters. The party plans to relocate from its current location near Brisbane Airport to the Wharf Street site once fit-out works are finished. While some raised concerns regarding a “conflict of interest,” One Nation MP Barnaby Joyce defended the move, noting the party would lease the space at commercial rates rather than relying on taxpayer funds. A spokesperson for Hancock Prospecting confirmed the company is not providing discounted rent to any political or other tenants. Rinehart is a significant financial supporter of One Nation; previous contributions include a private jet valued at approximately $1.5 million and sponsorship for Senator Hanson’s travel to Europe.
