The Glastonbury Festival, which originated in 1970 as the Pilton Pop, Folk & Blues Festival at Worthy Farm, has evolved from a small gathering of approximately 1,500 to 2,500 attendees into a massive global event. Currently led by Emily Eavis, the festival occupies roughly 900 acres and features nearly 3,000 performers. Following a scheduled fallow year in 2026 to allow the land to recover, the festival is set to return in from June 23–27, 2027. Organizers announced that tickets for the 2027 event would cost £408, including a £5 booking fee, marking the first time the price has exceeded the £400 threshold. This represents an approximate 8% increase from the £378.50 charged for the 2025 edition. To secure a spot, buyers were required to pay a £100 deposit, with the remaining balance due in April 2027. To manage high demand and combat bots and touts, organizers implemented a new ticket-buying system. Fans must now enter their registration number first to be assigned a unique place in the queue, a move intended to discourage the use of “syndicates” to make the process more democratic. The system also prevented users from logging in on multiple devices simultaneously. Demand for the 2027 event proved intense. Ticket-plus-coach packages sold out in under 30 minutes, and general admission tickets sold out in just 42 minutes on Sunday, October 4, 2026, as thousands 2026. However, an administrative error by ticketing partner See Tickets resulted in the overselling of fans entered a virtual queue starting at 09:00 BST. certain coach package tickets. Organizers confirmed that affected customers will not lose festival access; instead, bookings will be automatically converted to general admission tickets, and coach fares will be refunded. The price hike has drawn criticism from some fans who described the cost as “unreasonable” or “a scam.” Amidst the rapid sales, Emily Eavis addressed lineup speculation, ruling out Madonna and Oasis as potential headliners. A resale of cancelled or returned tickets is expected in Spring 2027.
